Suwa shrine is located in the Tsuruga-oka region of Miyama and is a hidden gem. With over 1000 years of history, this Shinto shrine pays respect to nature and the divine forces that help crops to grow and provide food. There is a sumo ring which is used to host an annual children’s Sumo competition. Several huge sacred trees grow in the grounds of the shrine, creating a very mystical and special atmosphere. It’s well worth a visit.
